One of my favorite parts of running My Midwest Is Showing is going to meet the people I interview and seeing their spaces – I'm pretty nosy. I think it's fascinating to see how representative a space can be of its resident.
Towards the beginning of summer, I did a house tour of my own house. I love interior design, and one of my biggest influences is and always has been my mom. I love that she is not afraid to take a risk when it comes to her house. She once painted her bedroom in pink stripes, glued feathers to the chandelier in our kitchen, and affixed her Pez dispenser collection to a wall. Plus, my dad is super handy and can build anything. Combined, their powers create a magical, whimsical, and perfect home.
I'm launching a new series called House Tour where I'm showcasing cool and interesting interiors throughout the Midwest, and it only seems fitting that I kick things off with my parents' home. My mom's key interior design advice is: "Stay true to the original character of your house." Check out how she did just that, and take a tour through the photos below.
